Dave Winer poses an interesting question:
Wouldn’t it be interesting if every certified A-lister, by convention, didn’t blog during the third week of every month. What if that idea caught on?
Yes Dave, that would be interesting…in an amusing but disastrous type of way.
- Memeorandum wouldn’t update for a week (and sites like them).
- Many non-bloggers would have nothing to read. Imagine no Boing Boing (they are all A-list bloggers), Scripting, Tech Crunch, Robert Scoble, Om Malik…;the list goes on.
- Bloggers wouldn’t have anything to write about and would *gasp* have to create some original content. Not that many don’t but the vast majority point to…;you guessed it, A-listers. Hell, if Dave hadn’t written his entry, I wouldn’t be writing this one.
That’s the way it works.
The above scenario doesn’t mean there wouldn’t be quality content to read. Good luck finding it though. Technorati’s top searches would be filled with “how the internet went dead”. Think about it…;if they “really” stopped blogging for a week – there goes a big chunk of content for sites like ZDNET, CNET, Slashdot. And it would only get worse with services like BlogBurst, taking blog content and pushing it to traditional publishers.
This caused me to look at my entries a bit to see how this would affect me. I have a good balance of linking to A-listers, small blogs and creating original content. Keeping it real, that was not always the case. Looking back there are many entries where I looked in FeedDemon, something an A-lister wrote sparked my interest and I wrote about it…;like the A-List Shuffle entry. Almost a year to the day people were complaining that Dave is stingy with links.
Hello! Black woman, non-A-Lister was linked to by Dave. Again. Sorry, couldn’t resist.
I’d like to see the A-listers stop blogging just to see the impact it would have on the net, but it’s highly unlikely that would happen. Too much money would be lost that week.

I really wanna know if that Colin guy is single! He’s SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO…..
Colin…you don’t know what you started LOL. Watch the questions that come in!
My questions:
1) How important is validation because the 9rules site doesn’t validate.
2) I read the comments on Whitespace about the new design. Where did the current design come from because it is so different than the previous one which rocks btw.
3) What does each member do specifically?
YES! The door has been opened to ask ‘dem questions!
What is the marital status of each member? If a member is single, are they interested in anyone? And if they are single what age range are they interested in?
Now for the blogging questions (who gives a shit about that? lol): Do you find it difficult to blog about your personal lives because you have so much attention in your personal fields?
Damn – good question about the validation.
How do you expect readers not to associate the sex network with 9rules when Scrivs is a part of them both. Ask the average person – if you say 9rules you think “Paul Scrivens”.
Why is Colin the only one with a personal blog?
Damn that didn’t take long. Who is going to be the first to offer their panties?
Another question: who designed the leaf logo?
Tyme – I love this email me when there is an update feature.
Aaron: I think your questions are best suited for Rundle. Oh, and he is the one that designed the logo and he wrote up his thought process on Whitespace.
Felicia: I’ve been happily married for just over 6 years. Mike and Paul will have to answer you themselves, but I think Paul likes girls with rich Fathers.
About personal blogging. Not really difficult for me. I keep a personal blog separate from everything else so that people take it for what its worth. Its just me rambling, jotting down little tidbits here and there, nothing serious. That way, no one judges me, the 9rules network, or anyone else based on what I put there.
I’m not sure why the guys don’t have personal blogs. Probably because they have a lot of blogs to manage.
To Tyme: Sorry for not answering these during the Interview, but I thought since these questions are really quick answers that we’d leave the interview for the tough questions.
AH!!!! I didn’t follow the rules. SORRY!
I’m a rebel without a ca…
Aaron – dude you beat me again! What do you do surf the net all day?
Tyme – {{hugs}} on the footer (I’ve been studying, impressed?)
Please, please, please…one Tyme and Scrivs podcast for some of that Cookie Cutter action. And a daily 9rules team podcast. If I ask for daily maybe a weekly one will come out? Monthly? Work with a brotha…
Colin – you’re a trip. Glad you’re over here. Didn’t see you in Cookie Cutter.
Do you guys have fun when you work?
What methods do you use to stay organized? All of you are in different locations, right?
Felix you didn’t ask it as a formal question.
a. We want a Scrivs and Tyme podcast. Can we get it?
b. We want a 9rules podcast. Can we get it?
c. Scrivs, Colin and Mike how does it feel to have a girl on the team? It must be different for you.
Felix: Sorry man. Federal law, I mean – Tyme’s law prohibits my immediate response. You’ll have to listen to the interview.
Why does each picture of Scrivs look different?
Is there a picture of the three of you together?
How do you guys celebrate Valentine’s Day?
There, since no one knows how to ask one question lol.
Definitely a Scrivs and Tyme podcast. Definite chemistry there. It’s a good match, bad boy and good girl.
9Rules podcast is a must. Please consider it.
A 9Rules podcast if it’s fun and not boring like Gilmore Gang. Gilmore Gang is snooze material.
Scrivs & Tyme podcast is interesting but I doubt she’ll do it because she detests players and Scrivs is the King of Players, right?
My question – what do you guys do for fun?
Do you feel you’ve gotten a thicker skin from blogging being able to take criticism?
Frell I can’t think of a third that hasn’t been asked.
I don’t think he’s a player I think he’s shy and sweet and uses the Internet to hide it. Mike isn’t shy he comes out swing in some of his posts.
Alison, but in all of them he looks good. Wonder what he looks like dressed up.
I visualize them all as being sweet. Scrivs probably buys his girl (which will be me) flowers. Mike probably designs his girl websites that express his feelings. And both guys are watching Colin if he’s referring to his as lovely for no reason the man has it going on. Lucky wife.
Of course I will have that with Scrivs one day. You’re taking notes right Baby?
Lucky wife? Lucky guy is more like it.
**I made this post earlier but it’s not showing up on the site (but is registered as a comment – damn EE). So I apologize if you’re getting this twice as an email**
Yeah – no more answering questions. I don’t want to have to go into Diva mode.
Felicia – smooth question. You’ve learned well. Since Colin answered he’s married…the dream kind of marriage. For example he put up as an away message on AIM “Taking my lovely wife to dinner”. Yeah, lovely wife. He’s cloneable material definitely.
EDIT: Since I’m resending this, what’s up with your guys wanting a Tyme and Scrivs podcast? You just want to hear him get mad at me.
Felix J: Thank you (about the footer). Very impressed indeed.
How did you guys meet?
How do you handle arguments amongst yourself?
How has the end vote in decisions?
Was it known that Tyme would be part of the 9Rules team when cookie effect went down?
Tyme we learn alot from you. Asking if a guy is interested in someone is more accurate than are you involved. You made it stick the way you told it.
I can’t wait to hear their voices.
Felicia – good luck. I bet you have a lot of competition.
Breaking my own rule here…hmmm…wait…the rule doesn’t apply to me does it?
When Cookie Cutter went down I was just trying to help out. Being part of 9rules (other than a member) was not brought up, wasn’t on my mind.
You guys are asking some good questions. You know I have no idea how they met?
Alison – I noticed the picture thing a while ago. Each set of Scrivs looks different yet all of Mike’s look the same, and they are in the same pictures. What’s up with that? How does Mike maintain a consistent look in every picture? Inquiring minds want to know…bet his driver’s license picture looks just like him.
Why should I trust 9Rules as a blog network over the others?
What are the qualifications to join?
Why are there adult web sites in a adult-free network?
When will the ad network start?
I’m down with the Scrivs/Tyme and 9rules podcast only if it’s not rehearsed. I enjoy Tyme’s podcasts because she converses and she brings things out in people. I really enjoyed the Jeremy interview.
How big does the network intend to get?
What is going on with the Spanish sites?
Do you intend to add other languages?
Everyone, have no fear, I am here to answer all of your questions. You don’t have to wait for the podcast because that is just ridiculous and we live in a society where we will not stand for repression from the communist (Tyme) government. Therefore, the answer to all of your questions is:
Yes.
No need to thank me.
What Scrivs looks like dressed up.
Okay …… sorry, no more answers!
He’s the guy in the middle.
Haha, people, I look nothing like that anymore.
Mike come here for a second…
Old pic, but this is me dressed up more than anything. My hair is diff now though.
You guys are a trip. Hope you do a podcast. You’re making my Monday fly by.
Everytime I try to do a podcast with Tyme she rejects me. Not easy working with this woman, but it’s a good challenge nonetheless.
Scrivs – bring it.
Holy shit I go to lunch and all the fun is without me! I love it! This screams podcast!
LOL she said bring it. It’s on…the Scrivs and Tyme podcast! Holy shit this is going to be good!
Actually this is what I mean:
http://nottoogeeky.com/podcasts/Scrivs_podcast.mp3
Fun on a Monday…
Damn Tyme you’ve got a sexy voice. Made my day. You’ll be gentle – LOVE it!
It’s good too see you guys having so much fun.
Awesome! What a surprise! I listened to “I’ll be gentle” a couple of times. Damn…
Next time throw a moan in there will ya?
What’s it like working with a girl that’s so spontaneous?
Since there will be a ScrivsTyme podcast will there be a 9Rules podcast?
LOL ScrivsTyme catchy.
I have an idea – the 9rules team could do a blog completely separate from the company site. Put the podcasts up there, and do more of this. Throw some serious stuff in every once in awhile. Put fun back into blogging.
Is that Craig David in the background? ROTFLMAO
Whoever did the code for the site how long did it take and is that WordPress?
WordPress has the ability to change site themes will the ability be added to change themes?
I agree a ScrivsTyme podcast and a 9Rules podcast would be sick. I doubt any of the other networks have this must personality going on to pull it off.
You greedy people asking multiple questions there are now 36 questions asked and I can’t think of one.
Great idea about the podcasts but keep it real, no scripts. It’s Tyme2BReal. Allowing us to ask questions guarantees what we want to hear will be in the interviews. Smart.
I can’t wait to hear what Scrivs and the others sound like.
Hate to tell you Felicia but his MySpace profile says he’s in a relationship. Guess you lost out.
WHAT?! DOES IT?! Damn I need to update that shiz then. Unless of course it means I am already in a relationship with Felicia…
That was hella sexy. I can’t wait to hear this podcast.
I posted this before but it didn’t show up.
Felix, she was sexy. Sensual. I’m jealous. I wish a woman would tell me she was taking my hand. Hell, she doesn’t have to be gentle. Sigh.
Questions; what happened to the dark background? I loved that design. I had two other questions but I can’t remember.
“Unless of course it means I am already in a relationship with Felicia?”
Did I not tell you? He’s mine. Better recognize.
I agree the podcasts are a good idea. I like some podcasts because the blogger’s personality comes out more. Digg’s podcast is an example – it’s informative and entertaining.
Felicia: Only problem is since Feb. is a short month I don’t know if I can fit you in. Usually I keep the 30th and 31st open for “wildcards” but there isn’t any this month. I’m sure we can work something out.
Scrivs the player. He let you down easy Felicia haha. BTW Scrivs you’re kinda sexy in that second picture.
My questions:
i. As the network grows do you think you’ll have to strengthen your policies?
ii. Do you have expectations on how big you want your network to be? 500 sites? 1000 sites?
iii. When will there be another appplication process?
I learned something new. I didn’t know Scrivs was black until I looked at the MySpace profile and it says black. He looks white with a tan.
I glanced through the comments and I am glad to hear there will be a ScrivsTyme podcast because there aren’t many quality black people doing podcasts. A company podcast would be nice too. I honestly do not fully understand the business model and I hope the podcast would address that, give more insight on who is behind the company and be entertaining too.
Can’t think of another question. I will be looking forward to the podcast to hear some answers.
I’m digging the ScrivsTyme and 9Rules podcasts too. I like the idea because it reveals the people behind the company. With so many blog networks it is going to take more than quality for me to decide because many are giving the same stuff and cross linking each other. My time is limited and I only have time for resources I trust and enjoy.
The podcasts step aways from the text and opens another possibility for enjoyment, my enjoyment. Engadget’ company has a podcast but I don’t see the company owners talking amongst themselves. I do see them talking about other people. I don’t see the other network owners being entertaining enough to do a regular podcast. If 9Rules has it why not do it? Nothing to lose and everything to gain.
Scrivs was smart to add Tyme because Tyme opens the door to males. Who wants to listen to a bunch of men along? Hello, Gillmor Gang – boring. Digg is entertaining because they get drunk. Men are drawn to women. It’s the way it goes.
To everyone – thank you for responding in comments and emails. I logged on Yahoo (which I admit I haven’t done much lately) and had a blast reading the IMs and listening to the voice messages. You guys asked some really good questions.
And for those that sent me some *cough* loaded questions in emails – you know I can’t ask those things right?
Felicia: You okay?
I’ll survive Tyme. As painful as this is I’ll still listen to the podcast. And dream about what could have been. Sucka is missing out, I tell ya.
Felicia, sweetheart, angel, I would get down on my knees and apologize but I fear if I get down on my knees there won’t be any apologizing going on…
And for future reference if anyone else wishes to refer to me as a “Sucka” please spell it “Suckah” because that’s just how I roll.
Thank God for a subscribe by mail option so I don’t have to refresh this page to keep up with what’s going on.
Scrivs – you’re one cool smooth dude. Tyme, girl, wow, sexy voice, smart – you might be a total package. Surprised Scrivs didn’t come back with a smooth response to that.
I like the email thing too. With the cookie stuff I was manually refreshing. I don’t have to worry about missing anything with this.
And I definitely don’t want to miss this.
Daniel, I thought the same thing. He always has a snappy comeback. I was hawking my email to see his response to Tyme but there was an unusual silence.
Oh my goodness! So naughty….
I thought Scrivs would come back with something too. Oh well, maybe next time.
Damn meetings at work. Scrivs might have backed himself in a corner this time. Watch her say something about not talking with his mouth full…
I have questions but they are for Tyme:
1) Your voice is sultry and sexy. Have you ever consider professional voice work?
2) You seem smart, you have morals, ethics and values. You look good – what does a man have to do to get attention from you?
3) You seem to have earned the respect of your readers. Do you find it a burden to maintain the respect?
4) What is it like being the only girl with 9rules?
***Pardon the interruption. Anyone interested in Tyme will have to go to the BACK of the line. Cutting in line is prohibited. Thank you for your cooperation.***
LOL Marvin.
The back of a very LONG line…
We can ask Tyme questions? Shoot…in that case:
1) What are your interests?
2) How will you be celebrating Valentine’s Day?
3) What happened to your fiance that you thought died but didn’t?
4) What’s the most embarassing thing you’ve ever done?
5) What’s your biggest regret?
6) From your writing you seem very moralistic and ethical. Do you find that gets in the way of your relationships?
7) Borrowing Felicia’s question, are you interested in someone? If not what age range do you prefer for a man (like what would you put on a dating site)?
What do you do for fun?
9) What traits appeal to you in a man?
10) How big is your bedroom?
11) How big is the bed in your bedroom?
12) What’s it like being the girl in 9rules?
13) When is ScrivsTyme coming?
14) Have you and Scrivs ever met?
15) Did you get design tips from Mike on the new design?
16) Scrivs got you good for that podcast offline didn’t he? Doesn’t seem in character for him to say nothing – look at the comebacks he had for Felicia.
17) What are your goals, dreams?
18) What is your idea of the perfect first date?
19) Where’s your personal blog?
20) You know we love you right? (Because you don’t just throw content up and expect us to read it. You hit the trenches with us like we matter.)
All I could think of off the top of my head.
Um…who said anything about asking me questions? You think I’m going to answer all those questions? Shooooot….
Of course I will…one of these days.
Maybe I’ll answer some of these and ask Scrivs to answer some of the *cough* other questions in ScrivsTyme *rolling eyes*.
