Expression Engine 1.4 and free CORE version

Posted on December 19th, 2005 by Tyme White in Miscellaneous

I’ve used pMachine products for years, and yes most of my blogs were ExpressionEngine powered, until recently when I switched back to WordPress. There were two reasons why:
1) Exporting – yes I could create a template but the template would exclude items, important items, like comments.
2) Price increase – it went up from $99.95 to [...]

Why blogs have to have comments

Posted on May 21st, 2005 by Tyme White in Miscellaneous

A visual aid to help explain what I meant about several points:

Blogs foster conversation.
If your blog doesn’t have comments, it’s not a blog.
If a blogger makes a mistake the blogger needs to correct it (not only the source).

That said, look at the graphic below (click to enlarge it).

It’s a screenshot of RSS Bandit, my RSS [...]

What's a blog?

Do you remember the first Xerox machine? They were huge, slow, but wow, did they make like much easier. No more carbon! As with most technology, they evolved. Other machines came out but as a society we decided to call them Xerox machines, even if they were made by another company. Same thing with Kleenex. [...]

My Thoughts: Dave Winer and Mr. Picky

Posted on April 14th, 2005 by Tyme White in Miscellaneous

Dave Winer posted yesterday :
A friend confirmed something that I kind-of suspected. There’s at least one person who has told at least one conference organizer that he won’t come if I’m also invited. The person has name, of course, but I don’t think I should say who it is, at this time.
If you follow Dave’s [...]

A-List shuffle

I read Dave Winer’s post about Chris Nolan (she said he’s stingy with links) and Dave responded he doesn’t think he is. I don’t care about that:its point #4 that I’m interested in:
If you want something read by his readers send an email with a link.
People still email with a link? That’s what Technorati and [...]

Kidney transplant blocked because of website

Posted on February 25th, 2005 by Tyme White in Miscellaneous

Dave Winer referred to a BoingBoing article about Alex Crionas, a man that needs a kidney transplant and after tests concluded they were compatible, Patrick Garrity is willing to give him a kidney. Unfortunately LifeLink HealthCare Institute, the non-profit organization that arranged for the transplant is blocking the procedure:
Crionas got a letter earlier this month [...]

Understanding RSS

Posted on February 24th, 2005 by Tyme White in Miscellaneous

From Robert Scoble:
How does that traffic come? Well, in today’s Internet, three ways:
1) Through search engines like MSN, Yahoo, Google.
2) Through main stream media (a link from MSN’s home page, for instance, sent Dave Winer 200,000 visitors) and an article in the New York Times sent more than 10,000 people to ActiveWords’ site, Buzz Bruggeman [...]

Do You Know The Bloggers You Read? Do You Care?

Posted on January 26th, 2005 by Tyme White in Miscellaneous

From Corporate Blogging Blog:
Hans Henrik raises an interesting question: How much do you need to know about a blogger to actually feel you know him or her? He uses me as an example, which certainly made me think about it… “Who are you as a person – wanna share?” he asks.
My short answer is “No”.
Many [...]

Misrepresentation

Posted on January 18th, 2005 by Tyme White in Miscellaneous

This morning I read The Register article about Dave Winer and Adam Curry listening to Madge Weinstein’s podcast, not realizing that Madge was really Richard Bluestein. Dave and Adam thought Richard was really a lesbian and that was why they enjoyed the podcast. When they realized the “hoax”, they went public with it, causing a [...]
