I agree but all decisions considered “mean” are not “evil” or “bad” decisions.

Twitter announced it is time for them to make money. They are going to do it by implementing Promoted Tweets on their search pages. In other phases, if this goes well, they will expand the Promoted Tweets to appear in applications and Twitter based sites in the timeline of your tweets.

Twitter is very excited about this. Twitter thinks their users will love the new advertising model and will think it’s awesome!

Apple recently announced their intention to start a mobile advertising network called iAds. One of the potential changes in policy would restrict existing ad networks from passing on information needed to serve targeted advertising, which is the main reason why companies are interested in mobile advertising. Targeted ads are supposed to be more relevant to the viewer.

I take a closer look at why I think Apple is making this move, along with other decisions Apple has been making recently.

Smashing Magazine surprised their readers by disabling access to their front page, replacing it with a page recommending the reader buy their book. The text on the page implied Smashing Magazine was having financial issues. From the comments, which opened after I suggested it on Scrivs’ site, it seems as though many purchased the book. Others were confused on how a high traffic site with advertising was having financial issues.

Using Smashing Magazine as an example, I talk about some issues that hopefully can help all business owners. Learning from other companies can save you unnecessary problems later on.

I read an article that, as a consumer, rubbed me the wrong way. The article started off with a false premise, and in my opinion, went downhill. It is sad how many people simply do not understand how to work with others. Trying to force someone to do something, or giving them an ultimatum, is not the way to go. Instead, learn from past experiences and show you have wisdom.

Do companies need business plans? Rigid ones? No. Flexible ones? Yes. Plans are a good thing.
