f8 Facebook Conference or The Hype Conference

If someone told me I’d listen in to the Facebook f8 developer conference, I would have laughed at them. I’m glad I did as it was very enlightening. I could easily see the developers that would thrive and the ones that would fail.

Unfortunately there was a lot of hype and unrealistic false hopes spread at the conference. One of the necessary skills for running a business is being able to realistically access a situation and come up with an solid plan of action. You can’t fall for the hype.

Being a noob isn’t an excuse for lack of common sense

It’s an interesting term, “noob”. Sometimes it is used to mean lacking intelligence or common sense. Other times it is used to mean “new at something”. However, the term can’t be accurately used to describe someone screwing up at something they’ve been doing for a long time. For example, someone using the internet for over a year can’t say they are new, as an excuse for doing something inappropriate.

Let’s look at an example of how thinking before doing something or using common sense can go a long way in stopping embarrassing interactions.

Tweets will be preserved by Library of Congress and Google

Interesting move. I wonder how many others will have access to the archive, and I have a couple of other questions.

Twitter decides it’s time to make money. Yipee!

Twitter announced it is time for them to make money. They are going to do it by implementing Promoted Tweets on their search pages. In other phases, if this goes well, they will expand the Promoted Tweets to appear in applications and Twitter based sites in the timeline of your tweets.

Twitter is very excited about this. Twitter thinks their users will love the new advertising model and will think it’s awesome!

Apple, Adobe, Microsoft, Google and the real problem

Apple recently made the decision to restrict the applications that can be used on their devices. Most people are seeing the obvious diss to Adobe, who created software to convert other formats to iPhone/iPad/iTouch compatible formats. I think there is a larger problem Apple is trying to resolve.

If their current iPhone/iPad/iTouch applications became cross platform, that opens the doors wider for competition to take away their market share. The truth: the iPhone is Apple’s money maker and they have to do what they can to protect it.

Brand Identity: Be Consistent

Customer or reader loyalty is something companies strive for. In truth, the true goal is for customers or readers to be loyal to the company brand not the product or service. If the loyalty is to the product or service, if something better comes out, the customer or reader will move on. Loyalty to the company is a stronger emotional bond. Unfortunately, many sites online are inconsistent with their marketing efforts, and this results in them diluting their brand.

Too pissed to think of a good title

I know, I said don’t write when you’re mad. I’m breaking that rule and I doubt I’ll regret it plus if I waited to cool off I’d probably be in a grave some place. The problem with online interactions is that people can misunderstand what is said. People with sense will ask for clarification. People with no sense will jump to crazy conclusions, act on them and won’t ask a thing. I have too many of those idiots in my life. And I don’t wanna hear the “it’s none of my business” excuse. If someone thinks I’m doing something completely out of character why the hell don’t they say something?

Undervaluing your potential

After being “serious” for so many years, I decided it’s time to have some fun with my topics. I went to YouTube to look for something and came across a young lady who is doing exactly that. Having fun, creating a huge following and handling herself in a way one can’t help but be intrigued….
